Description of Project | The Central Mexico Youth Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by three Mexico RPCVs who live in Eugene and are members of WCPCA. Juliet Bender (PC Mexico 2009-2012), Charles Goldsmith (2009-2012) and Walt Meyer (2006-2008) created the organization with the objective of supporting activities in Mexico that help children, adolescents, and young adults get a quality education and lead productive lives in their own country. These young people come from families who cannot afford to pay their school fees or university tuition and most grew up in indigenous communities.
Every summer, the young beneficiaries of El Puente de Esperanza, one of the groups supported by the Central Mexico Youth Fund, share the generosity they have been shown by returning to one of their home communities and offering a summer school program to the children there. The program will last about 12 days and consist of educational games, dance, ethics, art, math, and chess. The donation of the WCPCA will help to defray the costs of transportation, materials, and meals.
