Description of Project | The purpose of this project is to improve the teaching and learning environment at the local primary school. The primary school has students in grades 1 through 9.
The end goal is to increase girls' interest and motivation in learning English, and for them to gain overall skills in all subjects, as well as to improve teaching methods.
From the conversations held with the teachers, it is clear that a combination of factors call for the discontinued use of the current boards in the classrooms, and that white boards are needed.
The current boards are so old and damaged that what is written on the boards isn't visible to the students, the dust from the low grade chalk is a respiratory problem, as well as a time drain from classes to wash the boards between subjects taught.
With the white boards and dry erase markers, teachers will have access to a higher standard of teaching equipment in the classroom. The boards, along with t
he projector and Mimio software, will aid teachers in producing more student-centered and interactive classes. The boards will provide a surface for projecting images, which can then be written on for instruction purposes. There will be the opportunity for more interactive classes. These boards will be used in countless ways in any number of their classes, as well as for special workshops that are planned for the girls on a variety of subjects.
